1. (intransitive or transitive) to awake, to wake up, to awaken
   1. (intransitive) To recover from sleep; wake up after sleep (genitive + peale).

      Äratuskell heliseb, aeg on ärgata.

      The alarm went off, time to wake up.

      Tukastasin, kuid ärkasin sebimise peale.

      I was taking a nap, but I woke up because of all the rumble.

      1. To regain consciousness; recover from unconsciousness.

         Arstid loodavad, et mees ärkab koomast täna.

         The doctors hope that he will come out of his coma today.

      2. To come out of one's thoughts, imagination; become lively.

         Ärkasin mõtetest, kui tüdruk mind kõnetas.

         I came out of my thoughts when the girl started talking to me.

      3. (nature) To start growing again; foliate, blossom.

         Linnud laulavad, päike paistab, loodus ärkab.

         The birds are singing, the sun is shining, nature (flowers and trees) is blossoming.

   2. (intransitive or transitive, figuratively) To start being aware of something; awaken morally, spiritually.
