By surface analysis, çerek (“coin of little value”) + -xhi. Possibly borrowed from Ottoman Turkish چیركجی (çeyrekçi),[1] although that is only attested in the sense “pedlar of butcher's meat”,[2] and may hence be an Albanian formation.
