Vietnamese
Etymology
Trần (2004) (apud Vương, 2021) proposes that đểu initially meant a "porter using carrying pole"; both đểu and đểu cáng (“porters”) (compound of đểu & cáng (“palanquin > palanquin-porter”)) now denotes "scoundrel, cad" because poorly-educated porters often dealt unfairly with each other and competed with each other for customers by means of violence and cheating.
