From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *k-rak (chicken, fowl).[1] Cognate with Burmese ကြက် (krak), with the prefix dropped. Also cognate with Nuosu (va), Lisu ꓭꓸ (ɣɑ́), Hani aq ha, Tangut 𗡗 (*ꞏja̱r², chicken), Horpa ɣra, Tosu vo⁵³ and Bokar po rok. Compare Lhao Vo qo,, Zaiwa woq, Lashi gyo,, Longchuan Achang kʐuaʔ⁵⁵ and possibly Hpon chòˀ.
