μέρος

From Proto-Hellenic *(h)méros; equivalent to μερ- (mer-), the root of μείρομαι (meíromai, “to receive as one's portion”) +‎ -ος (-os).^[1] Compare μέλος (mélos, “limb, member”), of similar meaning and superficial pronunciation but different origin.
