Inherited from Koine Greek σῐδηρῖτῐς (sidērîtis, sideritis, ironwort),[1][2] feminine of Ancient Greek σῐδηρῑ́της (sidērī́tēs, of iron), with change of ⟨ηρ⟩ > ⟨ερ⟩ -see: σίδερο n (sídero, iron)- and modern masculine suffix -ίτης (-ítis).[3] [4] Doublet of σιδηρίτης (sidirítis).
