From Proto-Mordvinic *məźarə ~ *meźarə, derived from *meźə (what, which) + *arə (value?);[2] compare Finnish arvo (value), Hungarian ár (price), both of Indo-Iranian origin. Cognate with Moksha мъзяра (məzära), Western Mari мазар (mazar) and Eastern Mari мыняр (myńar).
