From earlier kássa, from Proto-Ketic *kʰiˀs ~ *kʰeˀs, ultimately inherited from Proto-Yeniseian *kajš (“lower leg, foot”). Cognate with Yug киʼс (kiˀs), Kott hêči, gečan (“boots”) and possibly also Jie 劬禿 (*gju.thuwk /*got-o-k/, “his foot”).
