Inherited from Proto-Northeast Caucasian *ḳVlʡV ( ~ ḳ_w- -ɫ-,-ʕ-) (white): cognate with Ingush кӏай (kʼaj), Chechen кӏайн (kʼajn, white) and perhaps the first part of Udi кӏо-нак (ḳo-nak, leucoma, wall-eye). According to Xajdakov, -ла (-la) is a determinative suffix, as in кӏюла (kʼuˤla, thin).
