Borrowed from German Aufschlag. Ultimately from Proto-Germanic *slahaną (whence English slay, slag). Doublet of аншла́г (anšlág), дуршла́г (duršlág), форшла́г (foršlág), шлаг (šlag), and шлагба́ум (šlagbáum) and more distantly doublet of шлак (šlak) and шля́хта (šljáxta).
