Per BER, contracted from earlier стору́вам (storúvam, “to do, to make”) < *sъtvorovati. Formally matching Proto-Slavic *struvati would have probably meant “to disperse, to diffuse” (as attested in related causative Old Church Slavonic остроуꙗти (ostrujati, “to refute”)).
