Related to the synonymous Ingush урдув (urduv), Georgian ურვადი (urvadi), ურვათი (urvati), ურადი (uradi), Ossetian и́рӕд (íræd), ӕруӕд (ærwæd). According to Abaev, the Vainakh and Georgian words are borrowed from Alanic *urwæd, of native Iranian origin: compare Sanskrit व्रत (vratá, manner, usage, custom; religious vow or practice), Avestan 𐬎𐬭𐬎𐬎𐬁𐬙𐬀 (uruuāta, order, law).
