A Mongolic borrowing, from Middle Mongol ᠴᠢᠴᠠᠷᠭᠠᠨᠠ (čičarɣana, “sea buckthorn”), Azerbaijani çısqana, Mongolian чацаргана (čacargana), Armenian չիչխան (čʻičʻxan) and Turkish çıçırgan. But unlike its cognates, Udi word doesn't mean sea buckthorn.
