From *quduğ (well) (compare Old Uyghur (quduğ), Karakhanid (quδuğ, well), from Proto-Turkic *kud- (to pour).

This is the native Kypchak development from the above archetype, as opposed to ҡоҙоҡ (qoźoq), ҡотоҡ (qotoq), which have evolved from the same Proto-Turkic archetype, but via intermediary sources.
