Etymology

The origin is uncertain. Possibly a remnant of the Anatolian storm god, from Proto-Anatolian *tr̥Hʷánts. Alternatively, identical with Old Armenian տուրք (turkʻ, gift).

Known with the epithet Անգեղեայ (Angełeay), possibly from անգեղ (angeł, ugly, deformed) or անգղ (angł, vulture). Note also Ancient Greek τόργος (tórgos, vulture).
