բառնամ

• բառնիմ (baṙnim) (in mediopassive senses)

From *բարնամ (*barnam), from *բարձնամ (*barjnam), from բարձ- (barj-), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰerǵʰ-, whence բարձր (barjr), +‎ -ն- (-n-).^[1][2] The aorist stem developed thus: բարձի (barji), from *բարցի (*barcʻi), from *բարձցի (*barjcʻi), from բարձ- (barj-), the root of բարձր (barjr). Compare դառնամ (daṙnam).

1. (transitive) to lift up, to raise

   բառնալ մտաց հպարտութեամբ ― baṙnal mtacʻ hpartutʻeamb ― to be proud of

   բառնալ ի լուծ կշռոց ― baṙnal i luc kšṙocʻ ― to weigh

   աղաղակ, կական, կառաչ, ճիչ, ձայն բառնալ ― ałałak, kakan, kaṙačʻ, čičʻ, jayn baṙnal ― to scream, to cry out; to weep

   բառնալ զխոչս ― baṙnal zxočʻs ― to clear, to extricate

   բառնալ զցանկն ― baṙnal zcʻankn ― to unbar

   բառնալ զմանուկն յարգանդէ ― baṙnal zmanukn yargandē ― to deliver a woman

   բառնալ թողուլ, բարձի թողի առնել, բարձ եւ թող առնել ― baṙnal tʻołul, barji tʻołi aṙnel, barj ew tʻoł aṙnel ― to abandon, to forsake entirely

   բառնալ արձակել ― baṙnal arjakel ― to dismiss

   բառնալ ի վերայ ― baṙnal i veray ― to put, to put on, to load

   բարձեալ բերել ― barjeal berel ― to carry

4. (transitive) to cause to cease, to destroy, to dispel, to efface, to extinguish, to stifle
5. (transitive) to take away, to ravish, to take, to steal, to rob

   բառնալ ի միջոյ ― baṙnal i miǰoy ― to carry away, to stroy, to annul

6. (transitive) to derogate, to suppress, to withdraw

   բառնալ զօրէնս ― baṙnal zōrēns ― to repeal a law, to cancel, to annul

7. (transitive) to bear, to persevere

   բառնալ զցաւս ― baṙnal zcʻaws ― to support pain

8. (mediopassive, intransitive) to be lifted up, raised

   նմա բարձին զխաչն ― nma barjin zxačʻn ― they put on him the cross

9. (mediopassive, intransitive) to be carried or brought
10. (mediopassive, intransitive) to be taken away

    բարձի՛ր եւ անկի՛ր ի ծով ― barjír ew ankír i cov ― be thou removed and cast in to the sea

11. (mediopassive, intransitive) to be destroyed; to be extinguished

    արք արդարք բառնին ― arkʻ ardarkʻ baṙnin ― the just perish
