Etymology
Unattested in texts earlier than the 17th century. Identical with *թոթոշ (*tʻotʻoš) in Old Armenian քարաթոթոշ (kʻaratʻotʻoš, “gecko”). A reduplicative formation of unknown origin, to be connected with Udi тошо (tošo, “grass snake”).[1][2]
