Old Armenian

Etymology

The origin is uncertain. Possibly an Iranian borrowing: compare Khotanese (haṃggargga-, gathering, assembly), (haṃggalj-, to gather), prefixed with *ham- to an Iranian root possibly underlying Old Armenian կարգ (karg). Said Iranian root may be related to Latin grex (group); see there for more.
