Old Armenian
Etymology
By haplology from earlier *ճարանապարհ (*čaranaparh), from Iranian *čarana-parθ, composed of *čarana- (“to go”) and *parθ (“passage”). For the first part compare Avestan 𐬗𐬀𐬭𐬁𐬥𐬍 (carānī, “I move, approach”), Sanskrit चरण (caraṇa), ultimately from Proto-Indo-Iranian *čálHati. The second part is ultimately from Proto-Iranian *pr̥tuš.
