1. taste (person's set of preferences)

   լավ ճաշակ ― lav čašak ― good taste

From Middle Iranian *čāšak. Compare Persian چاشنی (čâšni, “taste; taste by way of a sample”). The Iranian word was also borrowed as Sanskrit चषक (caṣaka, “cup”), Old Georgian ჭაშნიგი (č̣ašnigi, “wine”), Georgian ჭაშნიკი (č̣ašniḳi, “gustation of wine”) and Turkish çeşni (“flavor, taste”). For the root, compare Sanskrit चष् (caṣ, “to eat”). Related to ճաշ (čaš).

   առնուլ զճաշակ ― aṙnul zčašak ― to try, to taste, to relish

2. (by extension) any trial, test, proof; specimen

   դուզնաքեայ ճաշակ ― duznakʻeay čašak ― weak or slight effort

   առնուլ զճաշակ քաջասրտութեան նորա ― aṙnul zčašak kʻaǰasrtutʻean nora ― to prove his courage

3. swallow; gulp
4. drinking-vessel, cup, mug, glass, tumbler; measure of liquid

   ճաշակաւ զծով չափել ― čašakaw zcov čʻapʻel ― to empty the sea with a tea-spoon

5. type of a glass-shaped candlestick
