An Iranian borrowing: compare the second part of Middle Persian (nʾmčšt' /nām-čišt/, “in particular, especially”), (nʾmčštyk' /nām-čištīg/, “famous, well known”, literally “known by name”), which is a participle formation from the verb reflected in Avestan 𐬗𐬌𐬥𐬀𐬯𐬙𐬌 (cinasti, “to make known, teach”).[1] For further origin of the Iranian verb see Cheung.[2]
