Old Armenian
Etymology
Inherited from Proto-Indo-European *krop-n̥-yo-, a derivative of *krep- (“body”). The consonant *k- was lost in the word-initial cluster *kr-; compare the regular loss of the first consonant in clusters *tr-, *pr-, *sr-. Then, word-initial ր- (r-) had to gain a prothetic vowel which assimilated to the following vowel -ո- (-o-). Etymologized by Lidén[1] and accepted by some of the others.[2][3][4][5] Doublet of կերպ (kerp).
