A modern learned creation from Italian tordo + -իկ (-ik). Probably coined by the Mekhitarists of Venice. The earliest attestation is from 1750, in a translation of Antoine Goudin's Philosophia made by Vrtʻanēs Askēreancʻ.
Based on a passage in Philo,[1] some have misunderstood տորդիկ (tordik) as an Old Armenian word, but տորդիկ-ք (tordik-kʻ) was added there as a gloss by the modern editor.
