Etymology

Likely from Proto-Indo-European *tweh₂-wo- (whole) and cognate with Ancient Greek σῶς (sôs), σάος (sáos), σόος (sóos, safe, sound, unharmed).[1] For the sound change compare քեզ (kʻez), քո (kʻo), քառ (kʻaṙ).

Alternatively, connected with Latin caveo (to take precautions, beware, take care).[2]
