הֶעֱלָה • (he'elá) (hif'il construction) (transitive)

1. to raise, lift
   • Tanach, Genesis 37:28, with translation of the King James Version:

     וַיִּמְשְׁכוּ וַיַּעֲלוּ אֶת יוֹסֵף מִן הַבּוֹר

     vayimsh'chú vaya'alú et yoséf min habór

     and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit

2. to bring from a low place to a high place

     אָנֹכִי אֵרֵד עִמְּךָ מִצְרַיְמָה וְאָנֹכִי אַעַלְךָ גַם עָלֹה

     v'zót halakhá he'elá she'asúr l'kholé Sh'"B sakaná lalékhet l'rofé kazé b'yom Sh"K

     And this halacha decides, that it is forbidden for a sick person who is not in danger to go to a doctor like this on the day of the holy Sabbath.
