آتى

آتَى • (ʔātā) III (non-past يُؤَاتِي (yuʔātī), verbal noun مُؤَاتَاة (muʔātāh))

1. to compensate, to recompense, to reimburse (someone)
2. to agree with
3. (transitive) to be agreeable, be favorable to, favor (someone)
4. (transitive) to agree with (someone) (of food)
5. (transitive) to turn out well for (someone)
6. (transitive) to suit (someone)
7. to aid
8. to supply

• وَاتَى (wātā)

آتَى • (ʔātā) IV (non-past يُؤْتِي (yuʔtī), verbal noun إِيتَاء (ʔītāʔ))

1. (ditransitive) to give

   Synonym: أَعْطَى (ʔaʕṭā)

   • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 7:175:

     وَٱتْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ نَبَأَ ٱلَّذِي آتَيْنَاهُ آيَاتِنَا فَٱنْسَلَخَ مِنْهَا فَأَتْبَعَهُ الشَّيْطَانُ فَكَانَ مِنَ الْغَاوِينَ

     wa-tlu ʕalayhim nabaʔa llaḏī ʔātaynāhu ʔāyātinā fa-nsalaḵa minhā fa-ʔatbaʕahu š-šayṭānu fa-kāna mina l-ḡāwīna

     And recite to them the news of him whom we gave Our signs but detached himself from them, so Satan pursued him and he became of the misled.

2. (ditransitive) to bring
   • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 18:62:

     فَلَمَّا جَاوَزَا قَالَ لِفَتَاهُ آتِنَا غَدَاءَنَا لَقَدْ لَقِينَا مِن سَفَرِنَا هٰذَا نَصَبًا

     fa-lammā jāwazā qāla li-fatāhu ʔātinā ḡadāʔanā laqad laqīnā min safarinā hāḏā naṣaban

     So when they had passed beyond it, he said to his boy, "Bring us our morning meal. We have certainly suffered in this, our journey, much fatigue."

3. (ditransitive) to give as a gift, to grant, to bestow
   • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 4:74:

     فَلْيُقَاتِلْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّٰهِ الَّذِينَ يَشْرُونَ الْحَيَوٰةَ الدُّنْيَا بِالْآخِرَةِ ۚ وَمَن يُقَاتِلْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّٰهِ فَيُقْتَلْ أَوْ يَغْلِبْ فَسَوْفَ نُؤْتِيهِ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا

     fa-l-yuqātil fī sabīli llāhi llaḏīna yašrūna l-ḥayawāta d-dunyā bi-l-ʔāḵirati wa-man yuqātil fī sabīli llāhi fa-yuqtal ʔaw yaḡlib fa-sawfa nuʔtīhi ʔajran ʕaẓīman

     Let those who barter the life of this world for the Hereafter fight in the Cause of Allah; and whoso fights in the Cause of Allah and is killed or obtains victory, we shall bestow upon him a great reward.
