From Old Anatolian Turkish اخشم (aχşam, “night”), an early borrowing from some reflex of Proto-Iranian *xšáfnyah, perhaps Sogdian 𐫟𐫢𐫀𐫖 (xšʾm /xšām/). Akin to Azerbaijani axşam, Turkmen agşam, Karakhanid (aχşam, “night”), Kipchak (akşām, “night”), Georgian ვახშამი (vaxšami).
