From Proto-Iranian *Hr̥jifyáh, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hr̥ȷ́ipyás, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂rǵ-i-pt-ió-s, from *h₂erǵ- (“white, glittering”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬰𐬌𐬟𐬌𐬌𐬀 (ərəzifiia).
