أَرَادَ • (ʔarāda) IV (non-past يُرِيدُ (yurīdu), verbal noun إِرَادَة (ʔirāda))

1. to want, will

   أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَنْصَرِفَ. ― ʔurīdu ʔan ʔanṣarifa. ― I want to leave.

   الشَّعْبُ يُرِيدُ إِسْقَاطَ النِّظَامِ. ― aš-šaʕbu yurīdu ʔisqāṭa n-niẓāmi. ― The people want the toppling of the regime.

   • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 72:10:

     وَاَنَّا لَا نَدْر۪ٓي اَشَرٌّ اُر۪يدَ بِمَنْ فِي الْاَرْضِ اَمْ اَرَادَ بِهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ رَشَداً.

     And we know not whether harm is boded unto all who are in the Earth, or whether their Lord intendeth guidance for them.
