Arabic
Etymology 1
Ultimately of Kartvelian origin, via Aramaic, Iranian or Old Armenian, see Old Armenian թաղ (tʻał, “felt”) for more. The similarity of this word and its Iberian descendants to the Romance descendants of Latin trilīx meaning a kind of fabric or canvas is a coincidence. Likewise طَيْلَسان (ṭaylasān, “pallium”) and أَطْلَس (ʔaṭlas, “satin”).
