Etymology

Borrowed from a Caspian language where غل (ğal), گل (gal, mouse) equalling Classical Persian گرزه (garza, rat) was compounded via optional genitive with a cognate of the stem of Middle Persian (wʾcytn' /vāzītan/, to carry away), so literally “mouse-grabber”.
