Borrowed from a Caspian language where غل (ğal), گل (gal, “mouse”) equalling Classical Persian گرزه (garza, “rat”) was compounded via optional genitive -ē with a cognate of the stem of Middle Persian (wʾcytn' /vāzītan/, “to carry away”), so literally “mouse-grabber”.
