Etymology

From Proto-Indo-Iranian , a suffixed form of Proto-Indo-European *lek- (to bend, leg).[1] Cognate with Ancient Greek λάξ (láx, with the leg/heel), Ancient Greek λᾰκτῐ́ζω (lăktĭ́zō, to kick); Sanskrit लकुट (lakuṭa, stick, club); Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀮𑀢𑁆𑀢𑀸 (lattā, kick), the latter probably from an unattested Sanskrit word for "to kick".[2]
