     مصع: هذا النبات هو من جنس الشوك، وهو نوعان، برّي وبستاني، وهما ضربان من الزعرور، وشجره يشبه شجر الكمثرى البرّي، وله ورق يشبه ورق الخوخ، إلا أنه أصفر منها، وكأن عليها زغبا يشبه الغبار، وهي منحنية إلى خلف حتى أنها إذا ألقت الثمر منه، أعني الورقة، انحنت عليها، وصارت الثمرة في جوف الورقة، والورقة كأنها حلقة، وله زهر أبيض مائل إلى الحمرة قليلا، يشبه زهر العليق، وله حبّ مدوّر في قدر حبّ العنّاب وأعظم،

     Medlar: This plant is one of the thorns, it has two kinds, wild and garden, and they are two types of hawthorns, its tree resembles the wild pear, it has leaves similar to those of the plum, but yellower, as if a fluff on them resembling dust, and it bends to the bottom till reaching its fruit, I mean the leaf, it inclines thereupon, and the fruit develops in the inner of the leaf, the leaf is like a ring with a white flower a bit reddish like that of the bramble, the fruit rounded and sized like that of the jujube but bigger.
