From earlier form نوشادر (nôšâdor) from Middle Persian 𐭠𐭭𐭥𐭱𐭠𐭲𐭥𐭥𐭩 (*ʾnwšʾdwr /⁠*anōšādur⁠/, immortal fire), combinated from 𐭠𐭭𐭥𐭱 (anōš /⁠ʾnwš⁠/, elixir, antidote, literally immortal) (compare Old Armenian անոյշ (anoyš)) and 𐭠𐭲𐭥𐭥𐭩 (ʾdwr' /⁠ādur⁠/, fire). Cognate with Sogdian (nwšʾʾtr /⁠nōšātar⁠/). Middle Armenian անուշադր (anušadr), Classical Syriac ܐܢܘܫܕܘܪ (ʾnwšdwr) are Iranian borrowings.
