Usage notes
In Classical Persian, both باز (bāz) and واز (wāz), variants of the same etymon, were in use. The former is now more common in the Iranian standard language and the latter in the Afghani standard, although the contracted وا (vâ) is also common in colloquial Iranian speech. Tajik usually uses the unrelated кушода (kušoda), equivalent to Iranian Persian گشوده (gošude), which is now archaic both in Iranian and Afghan usage and mainly reserved for poetry.
