وَصِيَّة • (waṣiyya) f (plural وَصِيَّات (waṣiyyāt) or وَصَايَا (waṣāyā))

1. will, testament, bequest
   • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 4:12:

     […] فَإِنْ كَانُوا أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَٰلِكَ فَهُمْ شُرَكَاءُ فِي ٱلثُّلُثِ مِنْ بَعْدِ وَصِيَّةٍ يُوصَىٰ بِهَا أَوْ دَيْنٍ غَيْرَ مُضَارٍّ […]

     […] faʔin kānū ʔakṯara min ḏālika fahum šurakāʔu fī ṯ-ṯuluṯi min baʕdi waṣiyyatin yūṣā bihā ʔaw daynin ḡayra muḍārrin […]

     But if they are more than that, then they are to be sharers in a third after any will which was made or any debt without harm .

2. commandment, injunction, bidding, ordinance

   Synonym: أَمْر (ʔamr)

     […] وَصِيَّةً مِّنَ ٱللهِ وَٱللهُ عَلِيمٌ حَلِيمٌ

     […] waṣiyyatan mina llāhi wal-lāhu ʕalīmun ḥalīmun

     This is a commandment from God and God is Knowing Forbearing.

   • 1865 CE, Bible (SVD), Gospel of Matthew, 15:3:

     فَأَجَابَ وَقَالَ لَهُمْ: «وَأَنْتُمْ أَيْضًا، لِمَاذَا تَتَعَدَّوْنَ وَصِيَّةَ اللهِ بِسَبَب تَقْلِيدِكُمْ.

     faʔajāba waqāla lahum: “waʔantum ʔayḍan, limāḏā tataʕaddawna waṣiyyata allāhi bisabab taqlīdikum.

     And answering He said to them, "Why also do you break the commandment of God on account of your tradition?
