Inherited from Proto-Turkic *čebre (“circle, circumference”), a development from the root *čebir- (“to twist, turn”), whence چویرمك (çevirmek, “to turn over, to turn around”). Cognate with Azerbaijani çevrə, Chuvash ҫавра (śavra) and Turkmen çöwre.
