From Middle Persian (kʾlpwt' /kālbod/, “body, shape, form”), from Ancient Greek καλοπόδιον (kalopódion, “shoemaker’s last”). Akin to Manichaean Middle Persian 𐫐𐫀𐫓𐫁𐫏𐫅 (kʾlbyd /kālbid/) and Old Armenian կաղապար (kałapar), գաղափար (gałapʻar), Iranian loanwords. Doublet of قالب (qâleb), the same Greek word via Arabic.
