Etymology

From Middle Persian (gwšk' /gōšag/, corner), which appears to be a suffixed formation from the word found now as گوش (guš, ear), in the sense of a lappet or protruding end of something. (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)

Another theory derives the word from Proto-Indo-European *gew- (to bend, curve; hand); see also Ancient Greek γῦρος (gûros, ring, circle).[1]
