Compare Classical Persian افسان (afsān), فسان (fasân), سان (sân, whetstone). Ultimately from Proto-Iranian *abi-saH-na-[1] or *ham-saH-na-,[2][3] from Proto-Iranian *saH- (to whet, cut).
