ܝܵܒ݂ܹܫ • (yāḇēš)

1. (intransitive) to dry out, become dry

   ܢܲܗܪܵܐ ܒܸܬ ܝܵܒ݂ܹܫ ܐܸܕܩܲܝܛܵܐ. ― nahrā bit yāḇēš idqayṭā. ― The river will dry out this summer.

2. (intransitive) to wither, shrivel

   ܐܝܼܠܵܢܹ̈ܐ ܘܗܲܒܵܒ݂ܹ̈ܐ ܝܒ݂ܝܼܫ ܠܗܘܿܢ ܡ̣ܢ ܥܸܠܲܬ ܚܲܣܝܼܪܘܼܬܵܐ ܕܡܸܛܪܵܐ.

   īlānē w-habbāḇē ḇīš lhōn min ˁillat ḥasīrūtā d-miṭrā.

   The trees and the flowers withered due to a lack of rain.

3. (intransitive, figurative) to freeze up, become paralyzed, stop suddenly due to surprise, fear, anxiety, etc.
