Also found in Classical Syriac as a variant of ܩܘܼܦ݂ܕܵܐ(qufdā) through devoicing of /d/ to /t/. Suggested further by 19th century scholars to be a variant of ܩܘܼܦ݁ܕ݂ܵܐ(quppəḏā) with the original meaning either “hedgehog” or “bird”.
