Etymology

From Aramaic קְרָא (qərā), from Proto-Semitic *ḳaraʔ-; related to Arabic قَرَأَ (qaraʔa), Hebrew קָרָא (kará) and Akkadian 𒆠𒊒𒌝 (qerûm).

1. to read

   ܐܵܢܵܐ ܠܹܐ ܒܵܥܹܝܢ ܚܲܒ݂ܪ̈ܵܘܵܬܹܐ ܕܠܹܐ ܩܵܪܝܼ ܟܬܵܒ݂ܹ̈ܐ.

   ānā lē bāˁēn ḥaḇrāwātē d-lē qārī ktāḇē.

   I don't want friends who don't read books.

   • Acts 15:31:

     ܐܝܼܡܲܢ ܕܩܸܪܝܵܐ ܠܗܘܿܢ، ܚܕܹܐ ܠܗܘܿܢ ܪܵܒܵܐ ܕܦܝܼܫ ܠܗܘܿܢ ܝܘܼܗ݇ܒ݂ܹܐ ܠܸܒܵܐ.
