Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘄𑘎𑘚𑘜𑘹 (ukaḍaṇe), 𑘄𑘎𑘛𑘜𑘹 (ukaḍhaṇe), from Sanskrit उत्क्वतथति (utkvatathati), causative उत्क्वाथयति (utkvāthayati) (compare क्वथते (kváthate)), from Proto-Indo-European *kwat- (to boil). Cognate with Konkani उकड्चे (ukaḍce).
