Borrowed from Sanskrit चषक (caṣaka).
चषक • (caṣak) m (Urdu spelling چشک)
From चष् (caṣ, “to eat”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *čaš-. Cognate with Persian چاشنی (čâšni, “taste; taste by way of a sample”) whence Turkish çeşni (“flavor, taste”) and Hindustani - Hindi चाशनी (cāśnī, “syrup”) and Urdu چَاشْنی (cāśnī, “syrup”). Georgian ჭაშნიკი (č̣ašniḳi, “gustation of wine”) comes from Old Armenian ճաշակ (čašak), an Iranian borrowing. Also compare Proto-Slavic *čaša, and diminutives such as Russian ча́шка (čáška), Macedonian чашка (čaška).
