From Proto-Indo-Aryan *táṭṣā, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *táćšā (carpenter, woodcutter), from Proto-Indo-European *tétḱō (idem). Cognate with Ancient Greek τέκτων (téktōn, carpenter), Avestan 𐬙𐬀𐬱𐬀𐬥 (tašan).[1]
