रंहस् • (raṃhas) stem, n

1. celerity, quickness, speed, swiftness
   • c. 400 BCE, Mahābhārata
   • c. 700 CE – 900 CE, Bhāgavata Purāṇa 10.45.49.1:

     गुरुणैवमनुज्ञातौ रथेनानिलरंहसा ।

     guruṇaivamanujñātau rathenānilaraṃhasā.

     Permitted by their guru, they both by their chariot with speed of wind.

   • c. 700 CE – 900 CE, Bhāgavata Purāṇa 1.15.29:

     वासुदेवाङ्घ्र्यनुध्यानपरिबृंहितरंहसा । भक्त्या निर्मथिताशेषकषायधिषणोऽर्जुनः ॥

     vāsudevāṅghryanudhyānaparibṛṃhitaraṃhasā. bhaktyā nirmathitāśeṣakaṣāyadhiṣaṇoʼrjunaḥ.

     Arjuna’s constant remembrance of the lotus feet of Lord Krishna rapidly (literally, “with great celerity”) increased his devotion, and as a result of this devotion, all the trash in his thoughts subsided.

     yaḥ paraṃ raṃhasaḥ sākṣāttriguṇājjīvasaṃjñitāt. bhagavantaṃ vāsudevaṃ prapannaḥ sa priyo hi me.

     Any person who is surrendered to Lord Krishna — ablating from vehemence, the three guṇas and what is known to the living — is certainly very dear to me.

     आ वां रथो अश्विना श्येनपत्वा सुमृळीकः स्ववाँ यात्वर्वाङ् । यो मर्त्यस्य मनसो जवीयान्त्रिवन्धुरो वृषणा वातरंहाः ॥

     ā vāṃ ratho aśvinā śyenapatvā sumṛḷīkaḥ svavām̐ yātvarvāṅ. yo martyasya manaso javīyāntrivandhuro vṛṣaṇā vātaraṃhāḥ.

     Flying, with falcons, may your chariot, Asvins, most gracious, bringing friendly help, come here; Your chariot, swifter than the mind of mortal, having the speed as the wind, three-seated O you Mighty.

     हिरण्यत्वङ्मधुवर्णो घृतस्नुः पृक्षो वहन्ना रथो वर्तते वाम् । मनोजवा अश्विना वातरंहा येनातियाथो दुरितानि विश्वा ॥

     hiraṇyatvaṅmadhuvarṇo ghṛtasnuḥ pṛkṣo vahannā ratho vartate vām. manojavā aśvinā vātaraṃhā yenātiyātho duritāni viśvā.

     Covered with gold, meath-tinted, dropping fatness, your chariot with its freight of food comes here; Swift as thought, Asvins, wind-speeded, wherewith you travel over all obstructions.

   • c. 500 BCE – 100 BCE, Rāmāyaṇa 6.81.28.1:

     अनीकं दशसाहस्रं रथानां वातरंहसाम् ।

     anīkaṃ daśasāhasraṃ rathānāṃ vātaraṃhasām.
