Etymology

From the same Proto-Indo-Aryan root of indeterminate structure (likely something similar to *seh₁- or *sh₁-yé-) underlying प्रसिति (prasiti, onward rush, cast), with a meaning of "hurling, casting". Related to Hittite (šije-, to press, shoot); whether or not Proto-Indo-European *seh₁- (to insert, to sow) is related is uncertain.
