From করিম (korim), which is ultimately from Arabic كَرِيم (karīm), + গঞ্জ (gonj, “marketplace”), from Classical Persian گنج (ganj). The town in Barak Valley was named after its founder, Muhammad Karim Chowdhury,[1] whilst the etymology of the town in Kishoreganj is disputed.[2]
