Inherited from Prakrit 𑀚𑀇 (jaï). Cognate with Old Marathi 𑘕𑘺𑘽 (jaiṃ), Old Punjabi ਜੇ (je), Old Gujarati जइ (jaï). In modern Bengali, completely replaced by the tatsama যদি (jodi).
